The Tour

The Society of International Railway Traveler’s exclusive Blue Train Safari combines adventure and opulence: five-star properties in Cape Town and Pretoria, two nights on South Africa’s luxury Blue Train, and top-notch game lodges and safari experiences in stunning Kruger National Park.

Your Blue Train safari starts the moment you step off the plane in Cape Town: first, be shepherded from the airport to the legendary Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, where you’ll spend three luxurious nights. Spend your days exploring this iconic city.

Then, enjoy the classic Cape Town – Pretoria route on the Blue Train – a 27-hour journey of 1600 kilometres (994 miles), through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery offered by the African sub-continent.

After a night at the stunning Illyria House in Pretoria, re-board the Blue Train for your overnight journey to Hoedspruit, home of Kruger National Park. This is the Blue Train‘s newest and most adventurous route.

Upon arrival in Hoedspruit, transfer to the exclusive 9-suite Lion Sands Tinga Lodge for a four-night fully-inclusive safari experience.

The Blue Train is one of the most famous trains in the world. It’s also one of The Society of International Railway Travelers’ World’s Top 25 Trains. And Kruger, home to more large mammal species than any other reserve in Africa, is also South Africa’s first national park and one of the largest game reserves on the continent. It is a “must-visit” for travelers of all ages.

The Blue Train has hosted some of the world’s top leaders, including Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher. Steeped in history, the Blue Train also maintains an impeccable sense of modern luxury, unrivaled on-board service, and exquisite cuisine.
