Train: Blue Train

Introduction/History: The Blue Train is one of the world’s great luxury trains, and runs several times a month between Pretoria and Capetown. The route is a 27-hour journey of 994 miles and includes a sightseeing stop in each direction. The Blue Train is operated by the state-run Spoornet, and it’s rumored that it’s to be sold, or at least it’s up for sale, to a private operator such as the Orient Express company. Details have not been confirmed.
Accommodations
"The train is air-conditioned. For cold weather, additional heating is provided under the marble tiles of most bathrooms. Each suite has its own bathroom with shower or tub. There are two train sets; one takes up to 74 passengers, the other takes 82.
Deluxe suites: Each train has nine Deluxe coaches which have four suites each. One of the four suites has a bathroom with a tub while the other three have showers. All compartments contain two twin or one double bed (stowed by day), as well as hi-fi, audio CD and DVD systems.
Luxury suites: Each train has two luxury carriages, each with three compartments. Each has a bathroom with tub and shower. They have hi-fi, audio CD and large-screen DVD systems. "
Dining Meals are served in the 42-seat diner in two seatings and include delicious African and continental cuisine. Dining and service are gracious. Breakfast can be served either in your compartment or in the dining car. Snacks and drinks can be served in your compartment at any time.
Lounge Cars Each Blue Train set has two classic lounges in sumptuous shades of brown. High tea is served in the main lounge every afternoon. The club lounge is the only public area where smoking, including cigars, is allowed.
Other You can call your butler any time of day or night from your in-room phone. The two engineers who are always on board the train love to talk to passengers about the train. While on board, please contact them. A camera mounted on the front of both trains gives guests a driver's-eye-view of the scenery ahead. The unfolding journey is shown on a TV screen in the club car and on one of the TV channels available in guest suites.
